Erykah Badu Announces Winter Tour Dates
Erykah Badu, often referred to as the First Lady or Queen of Neo-Soul, first gave the world her unique, sultry sound with her 1997 GRAMMY-winning debut album Baduizm and has been making waves ever since. While she has been playing festivals this year, it has been several years since her last music release or tour, so now fans can rejoice, as the songstress recently has announced select tour dates.
Her limited winter tour will warm the hearts of fans in Los Angeles and San Francisco in December, and Baltimore, Miami and Atlantic City, N.J., in February. Attendees in both SF and LA can expect shows on the more intimate side, with the venues she is playing having capacities under 2,500 attendees. The East Coast venues are a bit larger, having capacities in the 10,000-14,000 range. Her Miami performance is part of the III Points music festival, for which she is a headliner, along with SZA, Tyler, The Creator and ASAP Rocky.
She performed at several festivals across the country this year, including Demon Dayz in LA and Essence Festival in New Orleans, plus only a few non-festival shows. In August she also gave a super-intimate, heartfelt performance on NPR's Tiny Desk Concert series, on which she sang "Rimshot" from her debut Baduizm, for which she won her first two GRAMMYs, including Best R&B Album, at the 40th GRAMMY Awards.
Her most recent music is 2015's But You Caint Use My Phone mixtape, which includes her take on Drake's viral GRAMMY-winning song "Hotline Bling" with "Cel U Lar Device." The last LP was 2010's New Amerykah, Pt. 2: Return of the Ankh. Fans can only hope for new Badu music and more tour dates in the (hopefully) near future.
