Dua Lipa And Silk City "Electricity" Collab Expected Next Week
Even before the release of Dua Lipa's 2017 self-titled debut album, she was an up-and-comer to watch, whose vocal gifts shine through in musical collaborations. That sense of excitement had her latest collab making news before its release. The track, "One Kiss" with Calvin Harris, reached No. 26 on Billboard's Hot 100 in July. More anticipation has preceded her upcoming song with the duo Silk City — comprising GRAMMY-winning hit-makers Diplo and Mark Ronson — and now release detectives assure us it should drop next week, on Sept. 6.
Billboard traces the logical steps leading us to expect the single will be titled "Electricity" and will arrive with a music video. The steps Dua Lipa has followed to get here include the influence of her musician father and a theater/arts education growing up in London; and the covers she posted on YouTube which quickly attracted a following and eventually a record deal with Warner Music in 2015. Song-by-song she has reassured fans and critics alike that their previous comparisons of her to established greats such as Adele might be right on target.
At the 58th GRAMMY Awards, Diplo took home two wins with fellow DJ/Producer Skrillex as part of Jack Ü. They won Best Dance Recording for "Where Are Ü Now" featuring Justin Bieber and Best Dance/Electronic Album for Skrillex And Diplo Present Jack Ü. That same year, Ronson's Bruno Mars collaboration "Uptown Funk" won both Record Of The Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Diplo and Ronson have known each other since their early days in the music industry and announced their duo Silk City earlier this year.
While we expect "Electricity" to arrive next week, connecting the cables between Silk City's collaboration between masters and Dua Lipa's post-debut demonstrations of power is sure to sizzle.
