Demi Lovato: Upcoming Tour With DJ Khaled Will Show Fans "Who I Am As A Person"
On the heels of treating a select group of fans to a rarely-seen club performance at House Of Blues Dallas, GRAMMY-nominated singer Demi Lovato was both glowing from the intimate experience of the show and eager to talk about her new upcoming tour with DJ Khaled.
While audience sizes at Lovato's tour appearances regularly top out north of 10,000, her show in Dallas on Feb. 9 was limited to an exclusive group of just 2,400 American Airlines AAdvantage Mastercard cardholders, marking the second intimate club performance Lovato has put on in partnership with the two brands. "Those gigs remind me of my days of doing theater tours," she told Billboard in a recent interview, waxing nostalgic on her early days of touring. "It’s really cool that these performances are more intimate because I don’t get to do them very often."
But Lovato is quick to look forward, even as she looks fondly back on where she got her start. On Feb. 26, in San Diego, she goes back on the road playing arenas and amphitheaters, and she was excited to discuss how she plans to bring the intimate experience of a small club to a large format show.
"I’m going to utilize the arenas and really make sure that from every seat, you get to see my performance up close and personal, as much as we possibly can," she explains, while also hinting that her audiences will be treated to "a lot more production" in her upcoming appearances than in past tour cycles.
Alongside all of that extra production, there will of course there will also be the noticeable addition of DJ Khaled, who will be joining Lovato for the U.S. leg of the tour.
"I think that he is going to bring a lot to the show, and I think that it is going to be really exciting to see which guests he brings," Lovato comments, before coyly dancing away from confirming or denying whether she and Khaled might be taking the stage together at any point during her upcoming shows.
Delving further into the realm of upcoming projects resplendent with not-quite-ready-for release details, Lovato also hinted to Billboard that she has an upcoming collaboration on the way with one of her musical heroes. "I can’t wait for the world to hear it. It’s an incredible song," she gushes. "I can’t give away who it is yet, but you’ll find out soon."
In combining the intimacy of a small venue show with the high concepts of a major stadium production – not to mention a huge new song with a musical idol and the possibility of a few more superstar surprises courtesy of DJ Khaled, et al. – Lovato hope to bring her audience a tour experience that displays the full spectrum of her talent and personality. "It will represent who I am as a person and an artist and I can’t wait for this country to see it," she says.
Tickets for Lovato's 2018 spring tour are on sale now.
