Christopher Jackson & Valerie Simpson On Elton John's Longevity
GRAMMY-winning actor/singer Christopher Jackson and GRAMMY-nominated singer/songwriter Valerie Simpson were thrilled to be in attendance at "Elton John: I'm Still Standing — A GRAMMY Tribute," the concert special honoring the legacy of GRAMMY-winning singer/songwriter Elton John.
Jackson and Simpson took some time backstage during the taping of the exclusive GRAMMY TV special – where they were invited to perform their cover of John's "Border Song" – to talk about John and his lyricist Bernie Taupin's ability to write songs with incredible staying power.
"As a songwriter myself," Simpson explained, "[John] and his partner Bernie really showed me the longevity, the life of a song. If it has legs, it can go on and keep standing. That's the kind of songs I like to write, and certainly Elton John did that for the world."
"Elton is responsible for my first professional job in New York, as a member of the original company for The Lion King, which just celebrated its 20th anniversary." Jackson revealed. "His music – his genius – is unparalleled, and to be able to have grown up with his music has directed every ounce of my musical being. It's a thrill to be here, it really is."
"Elton John: I'm Still Standing — A GRAMMY Salute" will feature performances by some of music's biggest names, including Sheeran, Alessia Cara, Miley Cyrus, Kesha, Lady Gaga, Miranda Lambert, John Legend, Little Big Town, Chris Martin, Shawn Mendes, Maren Morris, Sam Smith, and SZA.
Tune in April 10 at 9 p.m. ET/PT for this two-hour concert special, only on CBS.
