Cardi B Is The First Female Rapper To Earn Two No. 1 Hits

Her infectious track "I Like It" has risen to make chart-topping history

When we talk about the glass ceiling for women, sometimes there's those people who think, "Nah, that's not a thing anymore." Wrong. Case and point. Today Cardi B made music history as the first female rapper to ever notch two Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hits. It took until 2018 for a woman to break that record. But hey, we got here.

Off her debut studio album, Invasion Of Privacy, Cardi B's "I Like It" featuring J Balvin and Bad Bunny just hit No. 1. The track samples Pete Rodriguez' 1967 tune "I Like It Like That," and its Latin trap feel is infectious. Cardi B previously earned a No. 1 hit with the GRAMMY-nominated song "Bodak Yellow," also from her debut album. Now a two-time chart topper, the New York native has surpassed other female rappers with one No. 1 hit, including Lauryn Hill, Lil' Kim, Shawnna (as a featured artist), and Iggy Azalea.

If you think that's the only record Cardi B notched, think again. According to Billboard's calculations, she is the first artist since Macklemore & Ryan Lewis in 2013 with two Billboard Hot 100 chart toppers from their debut album. She's also the first solo artist with two Hot 100 hits since Bruno Mars in 2010 and 2011. And she's the first female solo artist this decade to earn two No. 1 hits since Lady Gaga in 2009.

NUMBER FUCKING 1 . Billboard hot 100!!!!

— iamcardib (@iamcardib) July 2, 2018

Considering the underwhelming number of female musicians who have made big chart moves in recent years, we can only hope the success of "I Like It" starts to turn things around. Because in the words of Cardi B herself: "Yeah they call me Cardi B, I run this s*** like cardio."

It's that time again. On July 16 MTV Video Music Awards announced its 2018 slate of nominees.

Leading the pack this year with 10 nominations are new mom Cardi B and seasoned parents the Carters — aka Beyoncé and Jay-Z — with a total of eight nominations. Childish Gambino and Drake racked up seven nods each, Bruno Mars earned six and Ariana Grande and Camila Cabello follow close behind with five total nominations.

The MTV VMAs are awarded in a variety of categories such as Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist. Genre-based awards in pop, hip-hop, Latin, dance, and rock are also awarded. Notably, fans are eligible to vote in eight of these categories, including Best Collaboration and Video with a Message through Aug. 10, while voting for Best New Artist will stay open until the telecast airs.

"It has already been a monumental year in music, and this year's VMAs will take things to a whole new level," said Bruce Gillmer, head of music and music talent, Global Entertainment Group, Viacom. "The extraordinary group of nominees have amazed us with their talent and inspired us with their creativity — and when you get them together for one night, anything is possible."

The VMAs will take place on Aug. 20 at Radio City Music Hall,, which was the home of the inaugural VMAs in 1984. This year's show will mark the 12th time the telecast makes its way to the iconic Big Apple venue.

From diamond bowling balls to pet ostriches, get a glimpse of the high life in the singer/songwriter's latest music video

Jennifer Lopez is living it up right in the music video for her latest track "Dinero."

The music video, which was directed by Joseph Khan, features a black-and-white tongue-in-cheek portrait that takes the high life to another level entirely. In the clip, J.Lo passes the time with a diamond bowling ball in her mansion, wins a game of poker against three shirtless hunks, roasts marshmallows over a burning pile of cash, and walks her pet ostrich (of course).

Meanwhile, DJ Khaled interjects in drive-by shots of "more money" or "cash flow" while sauntering around a mansion, drinking from a small cup and hanging out the top of a limo. Not to be outdone, Cardi B comes on scene blazing in an elegant all-white feathered ensemble in bed with J.Lo before joining a game of croquet. Lopez wraps things up after a bedazzled dance sequence before (spoiler alert) relaxing in a bathing pool with a unicorn nearby.

"Dinero," which was released last week, marks the third recent single from Lopez, following "El Anillo" and "Se Acabó El Amor" with Abraham Mateo and Yandel. Rumor has it Lopez is due to put out a new Spanish-language album this year, Por Primera Vez, but a release date has yet to be announced. This would be her first full-length release since 2014's A.K.A.

GRAMMY-nominated rapper's debut handily tops the U.S. albums chart

Since "Bodak Yellow" was released in 2017, Cardi B has quickly ascended to become one of rap's must-listen voices. Following her two nominations at the 60th GRAMMY Awards, now the success of her debut album, Invasion Of Privacy, has further cemented the New York native's place in hip-hop history.

In its first week, Invasion Of Privacy sold more than 235,000 copies, easily earning the top spot on the Billboard 200. Of those sales numbers, 103,000 copies were generated from digital album sales, while a record-breaking 135,000 copies were streaming equivalent albums.

Cardi B earned the most album streams of any female artist in a single week, topping the success of Beyoncé's GRAMMY-winning LP Lemonade. She also earns the distinction of being only the fifth female rapper in history to top the Billboard 200 following the likes of Nicki Minaj, Eve, Foxy Brown, and Lauryn Hill.

Cardi B wasn't kidding when she sang, "I make money moves."

Cardi B; Drake; Kendrick Lamar with Jay Rock, Future and James Blake; Anderson .Paak; Travis Scott with Drake, Big Hawk and Swae Lee — who would you choose?

The musical messages in the 61st GRAMMY Awards Best Rap Performance category examine life from many angles. Cardi B's romantic warning "Be Careful" lets potential partners know their love should be consistent, or else.

Meanwhile, in "Nice For What," Drake doubts assurances of support once it's time to come through.

And the team of Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, Future and James Blake brought us "King's Dead," urging that presumptuousness is not advisable and giving a shout-out to Marvel's Killmonger.

Finally, Anderson .Paak's "Bubblin" celebrates a fountain of cash and its implications for living, and Travis Scott, along with Drake, Big Hawk and Swae Lee, takes us into "Sicko Mode": another dimension of playing for keeps.
