California Saga Visit The GRAMMY Museum
California Saga, a collective featuring the offspring of members of the Beach Boys, were the featured guests for a recent installment of the GRAMMY Museum's An Evening With series. Before an intimate audience at the Museum's Clive Davis Theater, California Saga discussed their early rehearsals and continuing the Beach Boys' legacy. Additionally, California Saga performed several Beach Boys classics, including "California Girls," which featured a guest appearance by the Beach Boys' Mike Love.
"There's no other band that's still together 50 years [later] where they've got kids that are musical," said Matt Jardine, the son of the Beach Boys' Al Jardine. "It was like, 'Wow, we could do something new here.'"
Billed as the "next chapter in the story of America's band," California Saga is comprised of Carnie and Wendy Wilson, the daughters of Brian Wilson; Ambha and Christian Love, the daughter and son of Mike Love; Justyn Wilson, the son of the late Carl Wilson; Carl B. Wilson, the son of the late Dennis Wilson; and Adam and Matt Jardine, the sons of Al Jardine. California Saga made their live debut opening for the Beach Boys on their 50th anniversary tour this past June.
Aside from to their involvement in California Saga, in 1989 Carnie and Wendy Wilson founded the pop/rock trio Wilson Phillips along with Chynna Phillips, the daughter of the Mamas & The Papas' Michelle Phillips. Christian and Ambha Love have frequently performed live with the Beach Boys. Carl B. Wilson is a founding member of the Los Angeles-based band In Bloom. Matt Jardine has toured as part of the Beach Boys' backing band and is currently readying a solo album, and Adam Jardine has toured with his father's Endless Summer Beach Band.
The legendary group kicked off their 50th anniversary celebration in 2012 with a performance at the 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards in February.
