Electronic/dance DJ/producer Borgore recently participated in an exclusive GRAMMY.com interview discussing the heavy metal influences in his music, the importance of having a trained musical background and why he's a fan of GRAMMY winner Zedd, among other topics.
"I think it's important to have a real musical background," said Borgore. "A lot of these [artists who] actually make things that are interesting have this background. I think that when you sit down and you learn Bach and your learn [John] Coltrane … you have more to bring to the table."
Born in Tel Aviv, Israel, Asaf Borger, aka Borgore, studied jazz at the city's Thelma Yellin music academy, where he played saxophone and composed for big band ensembles. Credited with creating gorestep, a combination of electro house, heavy metal, trap music, and dubstep, Borgore released his debut EP, Gorestep Vol. 1, in 2009, which was followed by Ice Cream, Borgore Ruined Dubstep, Pt. 1 and Borgore Ruined Dubstep, Pt. 2. In 2012 he released his Decisions EP, which features Miley Cyrus on the title track.
Borgore's debut studio album, #NewGoreOrder, was released July 8 and peaked at No. 3 on Billboard's Top Electronic Albums chart. The album features 12 tracks, including "Decisions," "Body And Soul" and "Ratchet."
