Big K.R.I.T. Drops Stunning Video For "Energy," Shares Message Of Positivity
Meridian, Miss.-born hip-hop artist Big K.R.I.T., which stands for "King Remembered In Time," has been dropping tracks steeped in Southern rap from Texas to Atlanta and influenced by classic soul since 2005.
Today, he shared his latest release, "Energy," from his TDT EP, accompanied by a powerful, beautiful music video directed by Child, which you can watch below.
The video is set in an old-school-looking mansion, with K.R.I.T. dropping his first verses from inside: "I need your energy. / I need your energy. / This world is killin' me. / Light it up / if you feelin' me."
He continues from the backseat of a classic black Cadillac slowly circling the grounds, as an all-ages cast joins him throughout the scenes. The song and video shares a message a celebration and resilience, highlighted in his line, "See hope, see drive, see why, in my eyes."
"It's important more than ever to show the positive energy of life. The coming together of generations and the giving of knowledge. There's so much power in community and fellowship. I have been blessed to share positive energy with so many people thru out my career. Although negativity is everywhere we must feed our souls with the positivity around us," Big K.R.I.T. shared with us over email.
Underscoring his range of classic influences, "Energy" samples Jill Scott's 2001 song "He Loves Me (Lyzel in E Flat)," which was nominated for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance at the 45th GRAMMY Awards.
