New Politics

Danish indie rock group New Politics were the recent guests for an installment of The Recording Academy's 5 Questions With … series. Held at The Recording Academy New York Chapter office, New Politics discussed their biggest career moments, creating music in Denmark versus the United States, and advice for aspiring artists, among other topics.

"Playing your music live and [seeing] the reaction [in] people [as] you start [building] fans — that is like the craziest thing," said keyboardist/guitarist Søren Hansen. "Being from a tiny country with 5 million people [and] coming to America and living out a childhood dream … there's no comparison."

Formed in the late 2000s in Denmark, New Politics features vocalist David Boyd, Hansen and drummer Louis Vecchio. Combining energetic, guitar-driven punk with pop and dance/electronica, New Politics landed a record deal with RCA Records in 2009. The band subsequently relocated to New York and released their self-titled debut in July 2010, featuring 10 tracks co-written by Boyd and Hansen. The single "Yeah Yeah Yeah" peaked in the Top 50 on Billboard's Rock Songs chart. The trio is currently working on their forthcoming sophomore set.
