(George Jones accepts the GRAMMY for Best Country Vocal Performance, Male at the 23rd GRAMMY Awards on Feb. 25, 1981, in New York.)
Thank you so much. You know something, I don't know what to say. I just know that we owe so much to the songwriters in the business because they're the ones that made it possible for me to be in this position tonight. In my case, it's Curly Putman and Bobby Braddock from Nashville, Tenn. And all the friends and fans that stuck by us … and I just don't know what to say, I'm just an ol' country boy. And I'm so nervous tonight I didn't know what to do. But it's been the greatest year of my life. And above all, I got to thank God.
