The Recording Academy is pleased to sponsor Making Music, Making Movies panel held on Tuesday, October 23rd at 3:30 pm at The Shop at CAC.

We’ve collected a panel of music-savvy filmmakers and film-savvy musicians who are ready to share their knowledge on composing for films, finding the right soundtrack, and everything else to do with that almost-mystical element that only truly great film music can bring.

The panel features:

·         George S. Clinton is a film composer with over 100 credits to his name, including Austin Powers, Wild Things, and A Dirty Shame

·         Lily Keber’s first feature documentary Bayou Maharajah profiled piano legend James Booker. Her new film, Buckjumping, is world-premiering at NOFF

·         Nikki Walsh is Director of Film Music at Universal Pictures

Jay Weigel (moderator) is a composer, producer, and arranger whose work can be heard in over 50 films

GRAMMY U SF invites you to attend a SoundChecks session with pop artist Troye Sivan. Sivan is a craftsman of a songwriter with an angelic voice; a polymath who can act, model, or direct with easy, organic flair. His latest release Bloom is an incomparably sweet and intimate work, and yet it is so well named because from that base unfurls something grand and universal. It’s also full of bops—a dizzy swirl of '80s synth-pop, crisp modern production, timeless balladry, and joyous dance—whose bold streaks and subtle shades effortlessly bridge arty to accessible. Sivan executed his vision with care, "I wanted to make sure the music had a really strong sense of identity," explains Sivan. "Then I wanted to explore: Let's find the poppiest edge of that world."

Join your fellow GRAMMY U® New Orleans members for a sound check and conversation with Underøath!

With eight years having passed since we last heard new music from Underøath, that absence weighed heavily upon music lovers’ hearts. Whatever real-life worries, psychic baggage or other concerns plagued the band members at the time of their 2013 farewell tour, Underøath’s collective consciousness has been fortified by a renewed commitment to their art. On their Fearless Records debut Erase Me, Underøath have added another crucial chapter to their formidable legacy. When the band went in the studio in the summer of 2017 to record their sixth album, they knew exactly what they wanted to do as well as what they needed to do. Having already established themselves both as melodic songwriters (2004’s Gold record They’re Only Chasing Safety) and as ambitious power merchants (2006’s gold-selling Define The Great Line and 2008’s Lost In The Sound Of Separation), the evolution detailed on Erase Me finds them using the sonic dialects they’ve crafted to reveal where they are now. Clearly, Erase Me is the apex where melodic heft, indefatigable power, spatial resonance and arcane electronic textures converge to reveal a band that’s positively fearless. Even with a comeback title seemingly marinating in self-fulfilling prophecy, nobody in their right mind would dare delete Underøath’s measurable contribution to the advancement of post-hardcore and heavy rock.
