Multi-hyphenate Miguel visited Recording Academy headquarters in Santa Monica in 2015, after his album Wildheart's June release and before 58th GRAMMY Awards nominations were announced later in the year. It was nominated for Best Urban Contemporary Album and the song "Coffee" for Best R&B Song. Miguel previously won Best R&B Song for "Adorn" at the 55th GRAMMY Awards and more recently released War & Leisure in 2017. "Being from Los Angeles, growing up in San Pedro and Inglewood and everywhere in between, my city has everything to do with my perspective and intention to include or encapsulate this sense of grit and then elegance," Miguel said. "It's like the hope and desperation, it's the beauty and the chaos, that is the city I grew up in." He called it "the spirit of the city … an effortless cool."
