Jo Mersa Marley On Reggae's Younger Generation
Jo Mersa Marley said his father Stephen Marley warned him nothing in music would be handed to him — he would have to "work for it." On the other hand, his family constantly discussed the history of reggae and individual songs, so some of that work was spent just listening. Speaking with Los Angeles Chapter on the Jamrock Reggae Cruise in 2015, he said things changed when a computer with Garageband was indeed just handed to him and with his cousin, the software was their introduction to concepts they now use in recording studios. "For reggae itself, it's where it's supposed to be for the young generation," said Jo Mersa Marley, upbeat about new music ahead but skeptical that the greatness of reggae's founding icons will ever be duplicated.
