Stardom comes in many forms and for James Bay it is partly thanks to his great songwriting. As he explains in this 2015 interview with the Recording Academy, the continuity of his musical efforts took him from a child at 11 hearing "Layla" for the first time to being told to make a list of professional producers, and he put Jaquire King at the top as his dream pick. Their result, Chaos And The Calm was acclaimed and received a Best Rock Album GRAMMY nomination and its hit "Hold Back The River" was nominated for Best Rock Song. "Songwriting the process is about musically wandering through ideas until something affects you," explained Bay about his method. "The thing I'm looking for is for something to move me, something to make me really deeply feel something, even for a second, because if you just feel it for a second, it's enough to want to chase it."
