At a pivotal point in his recording career, Coheed And Cambria singer/songwriter and comic book writer Claudio Sanchez spoke with Texas Chapter in Austin at SXSW 2016 about his 2015 album The Color Before The Sun. This was an artistic departure for an artist who had only recorded science-fiction inspired, progressive metal space-opera, known as The Amory Wars. His writing experience shifted in a Brooklyn apartment, knowing his neighbors could hear him, and the album that resulted was an honest confessional, not comic book sci-fi. One theme and song title was his son Atlas, expecting his son and both planning to be a dad and becoming one. The band went on a recording hiatus after The Color Before The Sun while continuing to tour. "Maybe it just took me this long to allow the music and themes to speak for themselves," said Sanchez, "and not necessarily need the mask anymore."
