Big Sean Always Thought His Officer Grandma Was The Famous One
Big Sean came by the Recording Academy's Santa Monica headquarters for this 2015 interview following the release of his album Dark Sky Paradise. It's track "One Man Can Change The World" was dedicated to his exceptional grandmother, a World War II Captain, a police officer in Detroit and recipient of a master's degree. "My whole life, people were always coming by my house interviewing my grandma," he said. The song was nominated for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration at the 58th GRAMMY Awards. From his discovery by Kanye West and through his many stages marked by five GRAMMY Award nominations, he has embodied his message that dreams are more than just possible. "I want them to know that not only is it possible, it's like supposed to happen," Big Sean said. "I want them to be, 'Sean told me, Sean showed me it's supposed to happen.'"
