In this episode of the Recording Academy's series Buzzin', Dan Buckley interviews Anderson East at the Nashville Chapter's 2016 GRAMMY Block Party. Produced by Dave Cobb, East's 2015 album Delilah was later followed by 2018's Encore. Enjoying his first night home from touring with Chris Stapleton, East said about Stapleton, "It was amazing, it made you want to be better and quit all at the same time." Collaborating with other songwriters has been a big change. "I used to think everything had to be solely your own and that was the element of truth in it," East said. Comparing songwriting with drinking, doing it alone can wind up in a place that's sad, but being with buddies can let a special looseness happen. "Just being around people that you're comfortable to say dumb things in front of," is key according to East. The thing about such honest discussions, he says, is that "sometimes the songs just fall out of them."
