The Recording Academy Pacific Northwest Chapter played host for GRAMMYs On The Road At The Sasquatch! Music Festival held in George, Wash. The Chapter conducted exclusive backstage interviews with artists performing at the festival, including electronica DJ/producer Felix Cartal and hip-pop producer/MC Katie Kate.

Cartal discussed his career trajectory, similarities between dance and punk music and performing in small venues versus large festivals, among other topics.

"The thing I always think about that's comparable between punk music and dance music is the instantaneous response [from the audience] when they like what you're doing," said Cartal. "In punk music, if you're going crazy kids are [going to] go nuts. … And dance music is very similar. If people are feeling it they're [going to] let you know."

Hailing from Vancouver, British Columbia, Cartal began his career remixing tracks for artists such as Dragonette and Moving Units, as well as other independently released remixes for MSTRKRFT, Ashlee Simpson and Britney Spears. In 2009 he signed a deal with Steve Aoki's Dim Mak Records and released the EP Skeleton. In 2010 he released his full-length debut, Popular Music. His most recent album, Different Faces, was released in March. Cartal's upcoming performances include Los Angeles on June 19, the Lights Out Festival in Miami (July 21) and the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas (Aug. 4).

Katie Kate discussed her musical background, playing a variety of instruments and the Seattle hip-hop community, among other topics.

"I play in a gamelon ensemble … and that is beautiful in its own way," said Katie Kate. "[It's] very different from the rap stuff, which is very different from the piano. They all serve me in different ways. My favorite part about it is getting the chance to … have a voice … [and] express myself however I want to."

Born Katie Finn in Albany, N.Y., Seattle-based hip-hop producer/MC/musician Katie Kate studied flute and classical piano at Seattle's Cornish College of the Arts. She's also a member of the Gamelan Pacifica ensemble in Seattle. In October 2011 she released the full-length album, Flatland. Katie Kate is scheduled to perform at Seattle's Bumbershoot music and arts festival in September.
