The Recording Academy Texas Chapter played host for GRAMMYs On The Road At South by Southwest during the conference's 26th annual installment from March 9–18 in Austin, Texas. The Chapter conducted exclusive backstage interviews with artists participating during the music portion of the conference, including indie pop/rock group Hellogoodbye and Outasight, the pop/rap project of singer Richard Andrew.

Hellogoodbye vocalist/guitarist Forrest Kline discussed performing at South by Southwest, musical influences, biggest career moments, and music education, among other topics.

"I never had any musical education when I was growing up," said Kline. "I got an acoustic guitar for Christmas [in] sixth grade and then electric guitar [in] eighth grade. I took one guitar lesson and I learned the musical notes [and] how to read music, but then I forgot it again. So I don't know how now."

Hellogoodbye was formed in Huntington Beach, Calif., in 2002 by Kline and fellow high school friend Jesse Kurvink. Drawing on influences spanning emo rock and indie pop, the band released a self-titled EP in 2004 and subsequently toured with bands such as the Academy Is…, the All-American Rejects, the Format, and Motion City Soundtrack. Their debut album, Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs!, was released in 2006 and peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard 200. The album also spawned the Top 20 hit "Here (In Your Arms)." Their sophomore album, Would It Kill You?, was released in 2010. The band's current lineup features Travis Head (bass), Kline, Joseph Marro (keyboards), Michael Nielsen (drums), and Andrew Richards (guitar).

Outasight's Andrew discussed his musical mentors, early influences, hearing his music on the radio, and social media, among other topics.

"The first time I heard my song on the radio, I was actually home in New York for a couple of days," said Andrew. "I was driving in my car … and there it was on [Z100-FM] and I was like, 'This is awesome.' … It was the station I grew up listening to, so it felt pretty good."

Hailing from Yonkers, N.Y., Outasight is the alias of Andrew, a rapper/singer whose style combines elements of rap, R&B and rock. In 2007 he self-released a mixtape, Employee Of The Year, followed by Radio New York (2008), From There To Here and Further (2009), and Never Say Never (2010). Outasight made his major label debut in 2011 with the disco-tinged single "Tonight Is The Night," which peaked at No. 38 on the Billboard Hot 100. Outasight released two additional mixtapes in 2011, Figure 8 and Get It Together. He is expected to release his debut album in 2012.
