GRAMMY-winning contemporary Christian music singer/songwriter Amy Grant recently visited The Recording Academy's headquarters in Santa Monica, Calif., to participate in an exclusive GRAMMY.com interview. Grant discussed her first GRAMMY win, how music inspires her and collaborating with fellow GRAMMY winner Carole King on her latest album, How Mercy Looks From Here, among other topics.

"I love 'Our Time Is Now' because, singing it, it reminds me of how I felt the first time I heard Simon & Garfunkel's 'Cecilia,'" said Grant regarding her duet with King. "That feel is somehow connected to some basic wiring in me … and then Carole King singing on it, wow, I've listened to her my whole life."

A native of Augusta, Ga., Grant started her music career at prep school performing songs by artists such as John Denver, King and James Taylor on guitar. After sharing a demo of her own songs with her parents that caught the attention of producer Brown Bannister, she was subsequently introduced to gospel artist Chris Christian, who helped her ink a deal with Word Records. Grant released her self-titled debut album in 1977 and followed with three consecutive GRAMMY-nominated albums, My Father's Eyes (1979), Never Alone (1980) and In Concert (1981). In 1982 Grant won her first GRAMMY for Best Gospel Performance, Contemporary for Age To Age. She subsequently garnered Best Gospel Performance, Female honors from 1983–1985 and in 1988 for "Ageless Melody," "Angels," Unguarded, and Lead Me On, respectively. Grant garnered her sixth GRAMMY to date in 2005 for Rock Of Ages...Hymns & Faith, which peaked at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Christian Albums chart.

How Mercy Looks From Here, Grant's first full-length studio album of new material in 10 years, peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard 200. The album features collaborations with Sheryl Crow, husband Vince Gill, Will Hoge, King, Eric Paslay, and Taylor. Grant is currently in the midst of a North American tour, with dates scheduled through December.
