Singer/songwriter and actress Bridgit Mendler recently visited The Recording Academy's headquarters in Santa Monica, Calif., to participate in an exclusive GRAMMY.com interview and perform a brief acoustic set. Mendler discussed her biggest career moments, life on tour and her debut album, Hello, My Name Is..., among other topics. Mendler's set featured the hits "Hurricane" and "Ready Or Not."
"[Hello, My Name Is...] is an introduction to me and what I want to say musically," said Mendler. "The album was really amazing to put together … to have that opportunity to really create each song and have it be its own world was really fun."
Born in Washington, D.C., Mendler moved to Northern California at age 8 and absorbed the music of artists such as Feist, Maroon 5, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Destiny's Child. In her teens she secured roles in shows such as "General Hospital" and "Wizards Of Waverly Place" before being cast as Teddy Duncan on the Disney Channel show "Good Luck Charlie" in 2010. In 2011 she starred in the Disney Channel musical drama Lemonade Mouth. The film's soundtrack, which features Mendler, peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200.
Mendler's debut solo album, Hello, My Name Is..., was released in October 2012. Peaking at No. 30, the album features 12 tracks co-written by Mendler, including "Hurricane" and "Ready Or Not." Mendler was among the artists selected in Billboard's 21 Under 21 list in 2012. She is currently in the midst of a North American tour, with dates scheduled through September.
