Previous wins: This year's win marked the 14th GRAMMY for Alison Krauss & Union Station, and the 27th GRAMMY for Krauss

Did you know?: Krauss was born in Decatur, Ill., and released her debut album, 1987's Too Late To Cry, at 16 years old. In 1989 Krauss issued Two Highways, the debut album under the Alison Krauss & Union Station banner. She won her first GRAMMY at age 19 at the 33rd GRAMMY Awards in 1991 for Best Bluegrass Recording for "I've Got That Old Feeling." Most recently, Krauss won five GRAMMYs in 2008 for her collaboration with Robert Plant, 2007's Raising Sand. Paper Airplane is Alison Krauss & Union Station's first album since 2004's Lonely Runs Both Ways, which won Best Country Album honors in 2005. The group's lineup is Krauss (vocals/fiddle), Barry Bales (bass/vocals), Ron Block (banjo/guitar), Jerry Douglas (dobro/lap steel/vocals), and Dan Tyminski (guitar/mandolin/vocals). Paper Airplane also picked up Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical, with awards going to engineers Neal Cappellino and Mike Shipley and mastering engineer Brad Blackwood. The album's title track was written by GRAMMY winner Robert Lee Castleman, who has penned songs such as "The Lucky One" (which won the Best Country Song GRAMMY in 2001), "Gravity" and "Restless" for the group previously. Paper Airplane also features covers of Jackson Browne's "My Opening Farewell" and Richard Thompson's "Dimming Of The Day." "All these tunes are about a trial," Krauss told Rolling Stone in 2011, describing Paper Airplane. "They're about trying times, being in the middle of the worst kind of heartbreak and waiting for it to pass."

With her 27th statue, Krauss is now tied with Quincy Jones for the most GRAMMY wins by a nonclassical artist.
