From Lil' Kim to Meg Myers, Learn How Music Artists Stay Active
On September 26, women across the country celebrated National Women's Health And Fitness Day, but staying active and maintaining a physically healthy lifestyle is a year-round effort. Whether it's taking a class at the gym, biking to school or playing a game of soccer after work, we want to celebrate getting physical.
From long days and nights in the studio, to the rigors of life on the road, some women in music still manage to make exercising a priority. In honor of this day, and to get you motivated with new ideas, we're sharing ways some of your favorite music artists stay active.
GRAMMY-winning rapper Lil' Kim likes to grab her racket whenever she gets the chance, she told the Recording Academy. "My surprising hobbies? I do like to play tennis.," she said. "I have a tennis court at my house. I like to play tennis." For her, it is a way to release emotions. "I was like, one day, I got to get Serena at the house," she said.
All-female rock band, the Aces have been working together on music since they were young. Something they do for fun when they are not playing together is exercising. "We all love fitness," drummer Alisa Ramirez said. "I love running and yoga."
For Meg Myers, running is her go-to activity. "I like running outside," she told the Recording Academy. "Then that leads me to hiking. Just nature is huge for me … Anything in nature is really good for me." She shared that physical activity helps her "get out" of her head. "Yeah, I think running, hiking, and just chilling," she added.
