The GRAMMY Foundation and MusiCares, together with the National Institutes of Health, have announced the second annual Teen Substance Abuse Awareness Through Music contest. On Oct. 17 MusiCares, in conjunction with Faith Family Medical Clinic, will be offering flu shots ($20), vitamin B-12 injections ($20), tetanus and diphtheria boosters ($40), and pneumonia vaccinations ($45) to music professionals and their friends and families from 2–5 p.m. at The Recording Academy Nashville Chapter office. Please note that any vaccine other than the flu will need to be requested ahead of time in order to ensure available quantities. On Oct. 24 MusiCares will sponsor a free dental clinic for Philadelphia-area music professionals from 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Services provided will include a dental exam, teeth cleaning and X-rays, and will be provided to pre-screened, pre-registered attendees. Growing public awareness regarding the dangers of influenza has created a demand for flu shots. Every fall, millions of people across the nation get vaccinated because it’s still the best way to stay protected from the flu. MusiCares will offer discounted flu vaccinations for $18 and pneumonia vaccinations for $57 on Oct. 24 from 2–4 p.m. at The Recording Academy headquarters in Santa Monica, Calif. MusiCares will host a free health and resource fair on Oct. 29 for music professionals in the Los Angeles area at The Recording Academy's headquarters in Santa Monica, Calif. The event will feature presentations and valuable resources to assist artists with improving their personal and professional well-being. Topics will include IRS and tax information for individuals and small businesses, social media marketing, securing affordable health insurance, and résumé and career building, as well as a vocal health presentation by voice expert Lisa Popeil, MFA. Representatives from various health care fields and small businesses will also be present to provide services, including free hearing testing and massages, as well as information on nutrition, chiropractic care, voice training, the Alexander Technique, hypnotherapy, addiction recovery, website design marketing for artists, and more.
