On Sept. 19, nine of Seattle's best-loved music venues will be doing their part to support the musicians who perform on their local stages. Seattle Cares For MusiCares is being held to raise funds for the MusiCares Foundation with each participating venue donating a portion of the evening's ticket sales to MusiCares. The participating venues are Chop Suey, Comet Tavern, the Crocodile, Dimitriou's Jazz Alley, Highway 99 Blues Club, the Sunset Tavern, Tractor Tavern, the Triple Door, and Tula's. As part of our ongoing efforts to address the problems of addiction in the music industry, MusiCares will focus on the topic of relapse and relapse prevention at a series of panels during National Recovery Month.

A second panel will take place in Nashville on Sept. 24 at the Nashville Chapter (1904 Wedgewood Ave., Nashville, TN 37212) from 2–3:30 p.m. The panelists will be Dr. Pete Harris, Ph.D., private practitioner and addiction expert; John Hiatt, GRAMMY-nominated recording artist; and Will Radford, clinical director, Cumberland Heights Treatment facility. MusiCares, in conjunction with Jessie Trice Community Health Center, will offer complete dental cleanings, screenings and exams to low-income music professionals in need of these services. The treatments will be provided free of charge to pre-screened, pre-approved music professionals, upon establishing eligibility.
