From Nov. 11–13, MusiCares will host a Safe Harbor Room backstage at the 9th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards to provide a support system to artists and crew members struggling with addiction issues. Staffed by qualified chemical dependency and intervention specialists, the Safe Harbor Room offers a support network to those in recovery while they are participating in the production of televised music shows and other major music events.

MusiCares has expanded the Safe Harbor Room program to include the annual GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY Awards, the CMA Awards, South by Southwest, Bumbershoot, BET's annual Awards Special, the Academy of Country Music Awards, the Native American Music Awards, and the NAMM Conference.

The Safe Harbor Room is open to crew, staff, production and artists.

On Nov. 12 MusiCares, in conjunction with Dr. Robert Mantoni, will be offering comprehensive dental exams and consultations to low-income music professionals who lack insurance in the Washington, D.C. area.

Exams will include complete dental X-rays and cleaning and will be provided free of charge to pre-screened, pre-approved music professionals upon establishing eligibility. A minimum of five years of documented music career history or credit on at least five recorded tracks/videos is required to be eligible for the clinic.

In partnership with the Hawaiian Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism and Outrigger Waikiki Reef on the Beach hotel, the Pacific Northwest Chapter will present MusicTech Hawaii, an event focusing on how Hawaiian musicians can better market their music on the Web and find a larger audience for their music.

A panel will take place featuring Ben London, PNW Chapter Executive Director; Steve Manning, Sub Pop Records; William G. Meyer III, attorney; and Mark Montgomery, Echo Music. Following the discussion, guests will be invited to join the panelists, Academy staff, and members of the Hawaiian music community at a MusiCares-hosted reception at the Ka Pila Grill, located in the Outrigger Waikiki Reef.

On June 11 MusiCares will sponsor free dental services to low-income Philadelphia-area musicians and other music professionals. Available services will feature a dental exam, basic teeth cleaning and polishing, and two bite-wing X-rays, provided courtesy of Mobile Dentists.
