Pilates Workshop for Musicians Get Strong & Fight Stress Head-On in New York

Apr 25, 2014 - 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm

Being physically fit is key to a long, pain-free performance career.  Local 802, the union's Membership Assistance Program (IMAP), The Actors Fund and MusiCares are offering a free, weekly class to help raise fitness levels and lessen the physical  toll of stress on the body.

Whether you stand or sit to perform, your body takes a beating over  time. Do you experience a chronically sore back, "stuck" shoulders, a stiff neck or maybe shooting pains running down a leg? These are among the most common complaints of hard working musicians. These types of conditions tend to get worse unless you take action. Don’t wait!  Join us to get a stronger body, week-by-week. You'll start  feeling the benefits from the first class.

RSVP via e-mail to Siena Shundi. There are a limited number of spots available, so sign up now!

In recognition of World Voice Day 2014, Osborne Head & Neck Institute and MusiCares are pleased to offer free voice screenings for music professionals

Without proper health coverage, access to quality vocal care can be limited and difficult to afford. That’s why preventative vocal health care is critical for injury prevention! A screening exam will help to not only identify existing injuries, but also areas of concern which should be addressed before more serious issues arise.

Qualified participants will receive an individual videostroboscopy to diagnose potential vocal problems and assess injury risk. Screening services to be conducted by Dr. Reena Gupta, MD FACS, Director, Voice & Swallowing Center, Osborne Head and Neck Institute.

Appointments must be made in advance through MusiCares. Sign-up and pre-qualification will be conducted at the MusiCares vocal workshop in Santa Monica on April 6th. For more information, or to register for the workshop call 800.687.4227 or register online.

* To qualify for a free vocal screening an individual must be a vocalist/musician with at least five years professional career history, or at least six commercially released recording credits.
