MusiCares will host a free health and resource fair on Oct. 29 for music professionals in the Los Angeles area at The Recording Academy's headquarters in Santa Monica, Calif. The event will feature presentations and valuable resources to assist artists with improving their personal and professional well-being. Topics will include IRS and tax information for individuals and small businesses, social media marketing, securing affordable health insurance, and résumé and career building, as well as a vocal health presentation by voice expert Lisa Popeil, MFA. Representatives from various health care fields and small businesses will also be present to provide services, including free hearing testing and massages, as well as information on nutrition, chiropractic care, voice training, the Alexander Technique, hypnotherapy, addiction recovery, website design marketing for artists, and more. MusiCares Health and Resource Fair
On Nov. 10 MusiCares will partner with the Chicago Federation of Musicians to co-sponsor a free dental clinic for music professionals from 9:30 am. – 5 p.m. at the Chicago Federation of Musicians headquarters in Chicago. Services provided will include a dental exam, X-rays and teeth cleaning. Attendees do not need to be CFM or Recording Academy members to attend, but must call in advance to register and receive application materials. In conjunction with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, on Nov. 12 MusiCares and Forum Medical Group will offer free mammograms for female music professionals in the Los Angeles area. If you are an uninsured California resident and at least 50 years old and have not had a mammogram in more than a year, this is your opportunity. On Nov. 15 MusiCares, in conjunction with Faith Family Medical Clinic, will provide a free health clinic for uninsured or under-insured music professionals in need. Services will include a comprehensive physical exam, blood and laboratory tests and/or an examination related to specific health issues. These services will be provided free-of-charge to eligible applicants. Those wishing to take advantage of this service must be able to document at least five years of work in the music industry or have credited contribution to six commercially released recordings or videos.
