Please join MusiCares during Black History Month with a dynamic panel of powerhouse artists, music industry professionals and medical experts in the discussion of dispelling the myths regarding Covid-19 and the vaccine.

Moderator: Jeriel Johnson, Executive Director of the Washington, DC Chapter of the Recording Academy currently oversees Academy Membership and Industry Relations for DC, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Panelists include:
Medical expert - Dr. Garrick Baskerville who is a board-certified Family Medicine physician and the Founder of METSI Care. He received a B.S. degree in Biology from the Pennsylvania State University. He has practiced in Primary Care, Urgent Care, Sports Medicine, and Occupational Health (Worker's Compensation) for the past 13 years.

Artist/Singer/Songwriter/Rapper - Maimouna Youssef aka Mumu Fresh is an artist that any fan of gospel, jazz, soul and hip-hop needs to know. The Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter and emcee is often playing a supporting vocalist role for The Roots, Erykah Badu, Common and many other big names in music.

Since 1985, DJ Jazzy Jeff has wowed us with his flawless turntable skills, innovative production and musical versatility. With the success of DJ Jazzy Jeff &the Fresh Prince, his acclaimed production company A Touch of Jazz, a DMC Championship and multiple GRAMMY and American Music Awards wins and nominations, DJ Jazzy Jeff proves time and again that he’ll always be a force to be reckoned with.

In collaboration with The Ad Council, “Facts, Fears and Honest Dialogue: COVID-19 Vaccines and the Black Music Community” will be a one-hour, moderated discussion featuring a panel of music industry professionals alongside subject-matter medical experts in a conversation that will authentically deliver the facts about the vaccine in order to drive action among Black consumers. This nationwide event will be part of a series of events meant to raise awareness of the COVID-19 vaccine work with the Black community and share with MusiCares’ constituents the various educational assets that are being created.

Music On A Mission Virtual Concert will feature new performances from HAIM, H.E.R., Jhené Aiko, and John Legend as well as legendary performances from the MusiCares' vaults featuring Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty, and Usher. The event will also have special appearances by Carole King, Jesse & Joy, Jonas Brothers, Ledisi, Lionel Richie, Macklemore, Mick Fleetwood, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and Shakira and a special pre-show DJ set performed by DJ D-Nice. Tickets are available to the public for $25 and are on sale now on MusiCares.org. All proceeds will be distributed to music people in need.

Since the start of the pandemic, MusiCares has distributed more than $22 million to help more than 25,000 music people across the industry, including songwriters, musicians, engineers, producers, bus drivers, crew, guitar techs, label employees, makeup artists and more. In addition to COVID-19 relief, MusiCares provides a support system of health and human services across a spectrum of needs including physical and mental health, addiction recovery, preventative clinics, unforeseen personal emergencies and disaster relief. According to recent survey data collected by MusiCares, 62 percent of music people surveyed feel moderately high to very high levels of financial stress daily and 26 percent of respondents report moderate to severe levels of depression.

Music on a Mission will take the place of the 2021 MusiCares Person of the Year tribute ceremony.
