Seventeen-time GRAMMY-winning recording artist Aretha Franklin will be honored as the 2008 MusiCares Person of the Year on Feb. 8, 2008. Now in its 18th year, this annual GRAMMY Week gala will be held in Los Angeles, two days prior to the 50th Annual GRAMMY Awards. Proceeds from the Person of the Year dinner and concert provide essential support for MusiCares, which ensures that music people have a place to turn in times of financial, medical and personal need.
The recipient of a 2005 Presidential Medal of Freedom honor (the United States' highest honor), the GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award, a GRAMMY Legend Award and numerous other awards and accolades, Franklin is being honored for her extraordinary artistic achievements as well as her philanthropic efforts, which include Save The Children, Easter Seals and various churches and food banks in the Detroit metropolitan area.
