C. Tangana Creates His Own Last Supper With 'Ingobernable' Performance at 2021 Latin GRAMMYs
Spanish flamenco took the stage at Latin GRAMMYs 2021, thanks to Madrid-born singer/rapper C. Tangana and his fierce hit song “Ingobernable.” Like Jesus surrounded by his disciples, the maverick shapeshifter shows off his enticing vocal chops with over a dozen of his friends — including Nathy Peluso, Jorge Drexler, and Omar Apollo, among others — supremely evoking the Last Supper with the spectacle.
“Ingobernable” is about life as a vagabond, encapsulating the essence of Andalucia culture — historically a hub to the nomadic Roma population, where C. Tangana has roots. The song originally features the revered Gipsy Kings, along with Nicolás Reyes, and Tonino Balairo.
Born Antón Álvarez Alfaro, C. Tangana pays tribute to his birthplace amid his second full-length album, El Madrileño. The LP is an ambitious and genre-hopping opus that cross-pollinates between Spanish rap, Latin folk, and postmodern art pop.
“I want to bring to the Latin GRAMMY show the same thing that happens on the album,” the Madrid native told GRAMMY.com weeks prior to the performance. “[El Madrileño] is an album that involves a lot of people. It’s very emotional, with many collaborators. I have tried to make a representation of what I feel and value about the Latin GRAMMYs, to take that to the stage. It will be a short, but very intense performance with the participation of many artists I admire.”
The second most-nominated artist of the night, C. Tangana garnered five Latin GRAMMY nominations, including Record of the Year and Album of the Year.
