As the Oct. 17 YouTube release of the documentary "Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated" nears, YouTube's 1.5 billion monthly visitors will get a glimpse of its upcoming original programming. Along with Lovato, fresh talent powering the online push will include Ellen DeGeneres, Ryan Seacrest and Morgan Spurlock as well as upcoming projects with Katy Perry and Warren G.
These projects include ad-supported unscripted content, such as Lovato's documentary. The platform will also push viewers toward YouTube Red's scripted original series such as existing properties Step Up: High Water and The Karate Kid spinoff, Cobra Kai, and new creations from YouTube stars.
As global head of original content for YouTube, Susanne Daniels told The Hollywood Reporter she is looking for breakthrough content.
"It's easier to support films the right way when they have a really loud and strong point of view," said Daniels.
Lovato and the other personalities lined up to participate in its upcoming slate of projects look to YouTube as a leader in the new frontier of internet-based video content alongside the likes of Netflix and Hulu, providing new opportunities for stars and YouTube alike.
"YouTube is the O.G. of video content on the internet," said Lovato. "When they came to me with the idea, I just couldn't say no."
