Some of music's most memorable videos are getting a fresh coat of paint, as YouTube and Universal Music Group announce a plan to digitally remaster over 1,000 titles. The first batch of remasters includes Beastie Boys' "Sabotage," Janet Jackson's"When I Think Of You," Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance," Tom Petty 's "Free Fallin'," Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and more.

Thousands of iconic music videos are coming YouTube Music in HD for the first time. Watch @ladygaga’s Bad Romance now and explore all of our Remastered videos here → https://t.co/SvXc0vlGQB pic.twitter.com/G2JuCLuKVx

— YouTube Music (@youtubemusic) June 19, 2019

This undertaking involved intesnive archival work with material in the original formats, many of which are outdated and look and sound low-quality on today's high-definition screen. "We have sources coming from everything from original film to Digibeta, HDCAM to one-inch Cs and Betacam SPs to D2s—and the format it was shot in isn’t necessarily the format it was edited in,” Barak Moffitt, Universal's executive vice president of content strategy and operation told The New York Times.

Michael Nash, the executive vice president of digital strategy at Universal underscored the importance of bringing this high-quality media to modern audiences. "Audiences can tell the difference when it’s put in front of them, they can understand the difference when it’s explained to them, and it’s our obligation as partners of the artists to put the closest representation of the artist’s voice and vision in front of audiences,” Nash said. “If you didn’t educate consumers about what grand cru was, everyone would be drinking wine out of a box."

More remastered music video gems are expected to be rolled out each week.

Ariana Grande, Bad Bunny, J Balvin, Beyoncé, JAY-Z, Cardi B, Chloe X Halle, Janelle Monáe and Lady Gaga are among the talented group of current nominees for the 61st GRAMMY Awards. Other than their enviable vocal chops, here's something else these artists have in common: They always bring their sartorial A-game, whether it's dressing up for a music video shoot, a big event or something in between. Who are you most looking forward to seeing work it on the 2019 GRAMMY red carpet?

Who Are You Most Excited To See Walk The GRAMMY Red Carpet?

2018 was a big year for Grande, who lived up to her larger-than-life name with a GRAMMY-nominated No. 1 album, Sweetener, and her record-breaking viral No. 1 single "Thank U, Next." There's no doubt about it: our Princesses Of Pop is bound to give us an extra-sweet look on the red carpet.

Bad Bunny and J Balvin are two of the leading men in the Stateside Latin music explosion in 2018, and both of their bright and eclectic fashion senses continue to turn heads. The former is at the helm of the Latin trap sound, and the latter is widely sited as giving reggaeton a global boost this year. They have collabed on multiple occasions, including on one of the biggest songs of Summer 2018: Cardi B's GRAMMY-nominated "I Like It."

Speaking of Cardi, the hip-hop queen always slays in the style department, with bold looks that assert her reign in the rap game. Not only is "I Like It" nominated for Record Of The Year, the album it's featured on, her studio debut Invasion Of Privacy, is up for Album Of The Year and Best Rap Album.

Beyoncé and JAY-Z are one of the most iconic—and stylish—musical power couples of our time. And though Queen Bey doesn’t always opt to appear on the carpet, we always hold out hope for a glimpse. The duo’s surprise The Carters album, Everything Is Love, is up for Best Urban Contemporary Album, along with two additional noms for its singles.

Watch: Memorable Women On The GRAMMY Red Carpet

Sisters Chloe X Halle must have paid close attention to their mentors, including Beyoncé, who signed them to her Parkwood Entertainment label. While they're both under 21, their sense of style and artistic expression far surpasses their ages. The burgeoning R&B duo are up for Best New Artist as well as Best Urban Contemporary Album for their debut studio album, The Kids Are Alright.

Meanwhile, Monáe's fashion blends bold, classic and cutting-edge in a black, white and red palate, and perfectly matches her funky, futuristic brand of R&B. Her groundbreaking third studio album, Dirty Computer, is up for Album Of The Year and "PYNK," featuring Grimes, is up for Best Music Video.

Finally, Lady Gaga's ever-evolving musical stylings and avant-garde fashion sense make her an exciting pop culture icon to follow. Always one to keep the world guessing, she outdid herself with a lead role on the silver screen in A Star Is Born, alongside Bradley Cooper. One of their duets from the film's soundtrack, "Shallow," has the pair up for four noms this year, including for Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year.

Let us know who you can’t wait to see strut their stuff on the red carpet at the 61st GRAMMY Awards in the poll above, and don’t forget to watch the 61st GRAMMY Awards on Sunday, Feb. 10th on CBS.

GRAMMY FanBuzz Visualizer Launched

Fan barometer data visualization tool added to GRAMMY "We're All Fans" advertising campaign
Tim McPhate

Dec 2, 2014 - 4:06 pm

(For a complete list of 52nd GRAMMY Award winners, please click here.)

The Recording Academy and TBWA\Chiat\Day Los Angeles unveiled an addition to this year's "We're All Fans" advertising campaign for the 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards. In addition to the TV commercials, out-of-home and print elements previously unveiled, the www.wereallfans.com Web site — a first-of-its-kind interactive fan experience featuring portraits of GRAMMY-nominated artists composed entirely of real-time, fan-generated YouTube, Twitter, and Flickr postings — also houses the FanBuzz Visualizer. The FanBuzz Visualizer is a data visualization tool that will act as a barometer of fandom on the Web in real time.

"While this year's 'We're All Fans' GRAMMY ad campaign celebrates the power of social media and its unique ability to directly connect fans and artists, the FanBuzz Visualizer furthers that interaction and gives fans a voice to express support for some of their favorite GRAMMY nominees," said Evan Greene, Chief Marketing Officer for The Recording Academy. "With the FanBuzz Visualizer, we have an up-to-the-moment barometer for how the fans feel about some of the artists they love."

Powered by partner Visible Technologies, the FanBuzz Visualizer scours the Internet for conversations, comments and mentions of featured GRAMMY-nominated and -winning artists. The buzz is then tabulated to recognize the artists who have invested the most time connecting with their fans through social networks and further motivating fans to generate online chatter in support of their favorite artists. The FanBuzz Visualizer truly represents the authentic voice of music fans and is sharable as a widget, allowing fans the ability to showcase the current standings on their personal social media pages. The widget may be downloaded at www.wereallfans.com.

"It's not just radio spins, concert ticket sales and digital downloads that determine the popularity of an artist," said Patrick O'Neill, executive creative director at TBWA\Chiat\Day\Los Angeles. "The FanBuzz Visualizer lets music fans know where their favorite artists stand, across social media, in real time."

Music lovers and consumers are increasingly expressing their loyalty to brands online through social media channels. The buzz surrounding celebrity brands, movie releases, and concert tours can offer early indicators of success. As part of the FanBuzz Visualizer, Visible Technologies will be tracking the conversation around GRAMMY nominees such as Beyoncé, the Black Eyed Peas, the Dave Matthews Band, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift.

"For the first time, direct interaction between fans and artists can be an integral part of the GRAMMY Awards, showcasing that social media is now a mainstay of the entertainment business," explains Blake Cahill, senior vice president of marketing for Visible Technologies. "The implications of this are huge and connecting with your fan base — whether you're marketing a music performer or a consumer brand — is no longer just about concerts, press tours or even listening on Twitter. More than ever before, it's about engaging directly with your audience to raise visibility and create opportunities for meaningful, direct interaction."

The entire 52nd GRAMMY Awards ad campaign has social media at its heart. The Web site draws on Twitter, YouTube and Flickr fan posts to create images of GRAMMY-nominated artists. The TV, print and out-of-home all draw on this theme, using social media as building blocks to highlight the unique ways fans pay homage to their favorite artists.

The 52nd GRAMMY Awards will take place live on Sunday, Jan. 31 at Staples Center in Los Angeles and will be broadcast in HDTV and 5.1 Surround Sound on the CBS Television Network from 8–11:30 p.m. (ET/PT). The show also will be supported on radio via Westwood One worldwide, and covered online at GRAMMY.com and CBS.com, and on YouTube. Additional performers, presenters and special segments will be announced soon. For GRAMMY coverage, updates and breaking news, please visit The Recording Academy's social networks on Twitter and Facebook.
