Ozzy and the Bieb team for Super Bowl commercial

Dec 2, 2014 - 4:06 pm

With Super Bowl XLV approaching this Sunday, millions of viewers will be glued to their televisions for all the action between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers….and, of course, the commercials. In what could be the Super Bowl ad pairing of the year, Best New Artist nominee Justin Bieber will team with the Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne, for a Best Buy spot. The details on the ad are under lock and key, but judging from the photos released both the Bieb and Ozzy will be sporting futuristic Tron-inspired jumpsuits. Bieber hinted at the collaboration recently via Twitter, "Can't say what I'm up to today but when u guys find out it's going to be funny as heck." According to USA Today, the funny-as-heck spot will run during the third quarter of the game. With Bieber about to turn 17 and Ozzy at 62 years young, one has to wonder who masterminded this dream collaboration. If anything, it would seem Ozzy is now able to answer his own question, "Who the f*** is Justin Bieber?"

In more Super Bowl news, it seems the halftime performance by the Black Eyed Peas, Slash and Usher on Sunday is just the tip of the iceberg for music-related football activities, in case you're wondering where all the music stars will be prior to the 53rd Annual GRAMMY Awards. Christina Aguilera is confirmed to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner," "Glee" star Lea Michele will sing "America The Beautiful," and Maroon 5 and Keith Urban will perform during pre-game festivities. And that's just what you'll see on TV. In addition, on Saturday Garth Brooks will be hosting a football camp, Cee Lo Green will be performing at the Axe Lounge, ex-Fall Out Boy Pete Wentz will be one of the celebs coaching two-person teams trying to generate the most tweets for a charity, and artists ranging from Prince to Kid Rock will be playing other events. But most of the music stars echoed Green's sentiment about the game: "I'm going to perform, be a star and be sexy. I'm not necessarily going down as a sports fan." NFL to Cee Lo: "Forget You."

California Gurls and Gleeks will celebrate the biggest sporting event of the year in the special post-Super Bowl episode of "Glee." The show, which follows the big game on Fox this Sunday, will feature a spectacular cheer-squad routine to the tune of Katy Perry's omnipresent hit, "California Gurls," complete with the cast's very own breast sparklers. Entertainment Weekly's Inside TV blog calls it a "boob-a-palooza." We, of course, call it must-see TV for bra designers and dudes who just got done watching a football game. In fact, the producers are specifically targeting post-game dudes. "It was making sure that the dudes who refuse to watch 'Glee' are like, 'Wait a second!'" said show co-creator/executive producer Brad Falchuk. Wait a second, here's a clip.

Just how big is U2? Big enough to not only fill stadiums, but also bump a Major League Baseball series. A series taking place June 24–26 between the Florida Marlins and Seattle Mariners, originally scheduled to be played in Sun Life Stadium in Miami, has now been moved due to preparations for a U2 concert on June 29. The games will now be played in Seattle, as the Marlins agreed to vacate the stadium to allow setup time for the concert. "The best and only solution was to play the games in Seattle," said David Samson, president of the Florida Marlins. No word on whether U2 will dedicate their Pop song "Miami" to the Marlins.

If you're sulking from the sad news of the White Stripes' breakup, here's something to cheer you up. Boy George recently confirmed that Culture Club (winners of the Best New Artist GRAMMY in 1983) will reopen for membership in 2012 during an interview with "BBC Breakfast." While all the details on the reunion are still to be revealed, fans can look forward to all the Culture Club chestnuts they know and love, "I'll Tumble 4 Ya," "Karma Chameleon," "Church Of The Poison Mind," and "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?" Reunions…they come and go.

AskMen.com has released its list of the top 99 most desirable women of 2011. Perhaps not surprisingly, the list is full of stunning models and beautiful actresses (apparently, there's little to be desired about professional women, a world where power doesn't seem to equate with desirability). Still, there was room for a few music ladies, with Nicki Minaj coming in at No. 37, Shakira at No. 26, Beyoncé at No. 23, Scarlett Johansson (okay, she's an actress/singer…) at No. 8, Cheryl Cole at No. 5, and (drum roll), Katy Perry at No. 2. That's what you get for being a Firework.

Next week the legendary Barbra Streisand will be honored as the MusiCares Person of the Year in recognition of her talent in the recording studio, on the big screen and on stage, as well as for her philanthropic efforts. According to recent reports, Babra will be putting her on-screen talents to good use again with a role as actor Seth Rogen's mother in My Mother's Curse. The film is said to be a "road-trip comedy" about an inventor who invites his mother on a cross-country road trip as he attempts to sell his new invention, all the while trying to reunite his mother with her long-lost love. You'll have to wait for the movie's release to find out more, but if you're dying to know more about the mother behind My Mother's Curse, visit GRAMMY.com on Feb. 10 for part one of our exclusive interview with the woman behind the music (and the comedy), Barbra Streisand.

Bruno Mars' "Grenade" holds the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and Dr. Dre's "I Need A Doctor" featuring Eminem and Skylar Grey is No. 1 on the iTunes singles chart

The Week In Music: TSA Phunks With Fergie

Black Eyed Pea's NYC trip deglamourized
Tim McPhate
GRAMMYs
Dec 2, 2014 - 4:06 pm

It's been quite a whirlwind of late for six-time GRAMMY winner Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas. First, on Nov. 26 the Peas released their latest album, The Beginning. While the album was released too late for consideration for the 53rd GRAMMYs, it could be a strong contender next year. Second, on Nov. 30 the singer was held up at Los Angeles International Airport before boarding a flight to New York, and was required to remove her scarves and jewelry and pass through the airport's scanner. Under new Travel Security Administration rules, her bags were also sent through a scanner. Thankfully, no traces of "Boom Boom Pow" were found and Fergie was cleared to board the plane. It's a good thing, too, as on Dec. 2 she was feted as Billboard's Woman of the Year at a gala in New York. Fergie received the honor in recognition of her philanthropic efforts and career achievements.

Could Katy Perry's career be slowing down? Perry, who married Russell Brand in October, says she is thinking about starting a family and when the time comes her career will have to go on the backburner. "My singing is really important to me, but when children come along they'll be my main focus…. Russell wants lots of children and I think there's something amazing about tons of kids running around. We probably won't have the talk again for a few years — it's important to enjoy each other before having babies." The good news is before this "talk" comes, we will all have plenty of time to enjoy Katy, starting most immediately with the upcoming 53rd GRAMMY Awards. The songstress is up for four awards, including the coveted Album Of The Year trophy.

In related news, Perry is among the featured performers on VH1's Divas Salute The Troops, scheduled to air Sunday, Dec. 5. Other performers will include 53rd GRAMMY nominee Nicki Minaj, GRAMMY winners Sugarland and past GRAMMY nominees Keri Hilson and Paramore. The show will be hosted by another 53rd GRAMMY nominee, comedienne Kathy Griffin.

Fresh off receiving six nominations for the 53rd GRAMMY Awards, Lady Gaga is looking toward 2011 with great anticipation. During a no-doubt shivering tour stop in Poland on Nov. 26, the head monster dropped some hints on her forthcoming new album, Born This Way. "The album's finished and it's f***king really good," said Gaga during the concert. "I promise to give you the greatest album of this decade, just for you." The album will reportedly feature a collaboration with Sir Elton John, who joined Gaga for a duet at the 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards. Gaga added that the album is "so much deeper than a wig or lipstick or an outfit, or a f***ing meat dress...Born This Way is about what keeps us up at night and what makes us afraid." Okay, we're f***ing afraid....

In related Gaga news, the bad romancer is hanging up the telephone on all social network activity as part of the Alicia Keys-helmed campaign Digital Life Sacrifice. Keys, who picked up three GRAMMY nominations this year, has corralled a group of artists, including Gaga, Justin Timberlake and Usher, to embargo their tweets, pokes, status updates, and the like in support of World AIDS Day. Beginning Nov. 30 this quartet of GRAMMY winners vowed to give up using social networking sites until $1 million in funding is raised in support of Keys' Keep A Child Alive foundation, which provides treatment, love and support to families affected by HIV and AIDS. While the artists have still taken to their respective Twitter pages to promote the campaign and solicit donations, they've officially declared their deaths…digital deaths that is.

Looking to add some new spices to your holiday music collection? The slate of new holiday releases in 2010 have included both GRAMMY winners and nominees. Susan Boyle, who is up for Best Pop Vocal Album at the 53rd GRAMMY Awards, recently released The Gift, which became her second consecutive No. 1 album. Five-time GRAMMY winner Mariah Carey released her second holiday album, Merry Christmas To You II, including an all-new recording of her hit "All I Want For Christmas Is You." Sweet holidays are made of four-time GRAMMY winner Annie Lennox's A Christmas Cornucopia. GRAMMY-winning duo Indigo Girls released their first holiday collection, Holly Happy Days, with festive packaging resembling an actual present. Shelby Lynne, who took home Best New Artist in 2000, released Merry Christmas, a collection featuring two originals alongside classics such as "White Christmas," "Silver Bells" and "Silent Night." Finally, are you looking to celebrate with a little bit of soul? Three-time GRAMMY-winning Godfather of Soul James Brown is represented posthumously with a brand-new bag in the form of the double-disc The Complete James Brown Christmas.

The first weekend in December is here and we promise to do our best to provide credible music-related gift ideas up until the stores close on Dec. 24. This week, we have gifts representing a trio of 53rd GRAMMY nominees. For the fierce person in your life, the deluxe-edition Beyoncé tattoo kit is a viable option. The set includes temporary tattoo designs with rocker bolts and chains, monochromatic jewel baubles, and seductive spiders. Know someone who is looking to take up guitar? Though admittedly not cheap, the Fender Jeff Beck Stratocaster may be worth looking into, with a design and custom specs overseen by the master axeman himself. Warning: mere ownership of this guitar will not make you sound as amazing as Beck. And for the gleek on your list, how about "Karaoke Revolution: Glee"? Featuring the show's main characters and memorable scenes, the gamer on your list will relish this unique "Glee" experience while singing along with chart-topping songs, including the GRAMMY-nominated "Don't Stop Believin'."

Speaking of "Glee," check out what the no doubt gleeful GRAMMY-nominated artists are saying about their recent nods in our TWIM Twittertable: justinbieber: win or lose...this is #CRAZY!! the GRAMMYS!!! #HOLYCRAP!!!
