Tegan & Sara Perform At 98.7-FM's Penthouse
GRAMMY-nominated Canadian indie rock duo Tegan & Sara were recently the featured guests at 98.7-FM's Penthouse, an exclusive concert series hosted by Los Angeles-based radio station KYSR-FM at the historic Hollywood Tower in Hollywood, Calif. Before an intimate crowd, and dressed in festive holiday sweaters for KYSR's Ugly Sweater Party, Tegan & Sara performed a set featuring "Closer," from their latest album Heartthrob, as well as songs such as "Nineteen" and "Alligator."
Prior to the performance, Tegan & Sara participated in an exclusive interview with GRAMMY.com and discussed working with GRAMMY-nominated producer Greg Kurstin and Heartthrob, among other topics.
"[Heartthrob] has all the quintessential Tegan & Sara stuff that you've probably been accustomed to, like the heartbreak and intense emotion," said Tegan Quin. "It's trickery because it sounds really poppy but lyrically it's our darkest, most deepest record."
Natives of Calgary, Alberta, twin sisters Sara and Tegan Quin's debut album, This Business Of Art, was released in 2000, followed by If It Was You (2002), So Jealous (2004), The Con (2007), and Sainthood (2009). The latter two albums were co-produced by Death Cab For Cutie's Christopher Walla and peaked at No. 34 and No. 21 on the Billboard 200, respectively. In November 2011 Tegan & Sara released Get Along, which peaked at No. 20 on Billboard's Rock Albums chart and garnered a 55th GRAMMY nomination for Best Long Form Music Video. Heartthrob was released Jan. 29 and includes 10 tracks co-written by Tegan & Sara. The album was co-produced by Kurstin, GRAMMY winner Rob Cavallo and Justin Meldal-Johnsen. Tegan & Sara are currently on an international tour with dates scheduled through May.
