Stone Temple Pilots Announce 2018 U.S. Tour Dates
All tickets for the headlining tour will include a digital download link for Stone Temple Pilots' brand-new album. Although neither the title nor the official released date for the album have been announced at this point, STP co-founder/guitarist Dean DeLeo isn't shy about sharing other details about the new music he and his band have in the works.
"[The record] goes from acoustic-based, beautiful things to really hard-hitting, heavy moments. … So this record is just like any other STP record in that regard," DeLeo told Billboard, after first revealing, "If there wasn't new music I don't know that we'd really have a leg to stand on, but we're sitting on 14 new songs right now."
New frontman Jeff Gutt, a former finalist on FOX's "The X Factor," was announced as STP's new permanent lead singer in an elaborate unveiling event last month at LA's Troubadour club packed with industry insiders and longtime fans.
In an effort to track down the right candidate to fill the massive shoes left first by the passing of Stone Temple Pilots' co-founding lead singer Scott Weiland in 2015, and then by the passing of Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington, who had worked as STP's interim lead singer from 2013 to 2015, this past May, the band posted an open call-out online that received over 15,000 responses. They formally auditioned at least 30 potential singers before finally settling on Gutt.
"The guy's through and through a great singer, and he's a good dude, which was definitely one of the boxes that had to be checked off," says DeLeo of his new bandmate. "The guy wrote melodies to, like, seven songs in an afternoon, right on the spot riffin' 'em out. It was impressive."
STP's 2018 tour will kick off on March 2 in Santa Clarita, Calif., before wrapping up on May 20 with a headlining appearance at Rock On The Range.
