Spice Girls Announce 2019 Reunion Tour Without Posh Spice

The British girl group—sans Victoria Beckham—that took the '90s pop world by storm is back to share their message of girl power with their first tour in a decade, with dates set for summer 2019 in the U.K.

The legendary Brit-pop girl group has answered every 90s kids' nostalgia-filled prayers and is ready to inject the world with a fresh dose of girl power we haven't seen since they took to the stage at the 2012 London Summer Olympics. Today, Nov. 5, the Spice Girls announced they are reuniting in a U.K. for their first tour in a decade, yet without Posh Spice aka entrepreneur/fashion designer Victoria Beckham.

Geri Horner, Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm and Emma Bunton, perhaps best known by their stage names Ginger Spice, Scary Spice, Sporty Spice and Baby Spice, respectively, are ready to bring their message of positivity and female empowerment back to their home country. The four members of the group are set to tour the U.K. with six dates in June 2019.

Fans have hoped for a Spice Girls reunion—be that new music, a TV special or a tour—for years, with speculation ramping up over the last year. In October 2017 Horner said in an interview; "I really pushed to get everyone back together. I still love the girls and there are other bits and bobs in the pipeline." The most recent time the group performed together was at the London Olympics in 2012, with all five members performing a medley of their hits on stage. The last time the group toured together was in 2007 for a reunion tour, seven years after they parted ways.

While Beckham is not part of the lineup for the reunion tour due to "business commitments" with her namesake fashion brand and other entrepreneurial endeavors, she did share a message of positive wishes to her groupmates:

"Being in the Spice Girls was a hugely important part of my life and I wish my girls so much love and fun as they go back on tour, I know they will put on an amazing show and the fantastic fans past and present are going to have a wonderful time!"

While the rest of the group—and their fans—would love for a full-force reunion with all five members, the show must go on. As Horner shared, "I am so excited, together we celebrate girl power with our fans and the next generation and everyone is welcome."

Tour dates and ticket info can be found at the group's website.

Spice Girls Reunion Tour Breaks U.K. Ticket Sales Records Minutes After Going On Sale

The world has shown it is ready to spice up their lives, as hundreds of thousands of fans rushed to buy tickets over the weekend, breaking Ticketmaster UK's records and (thankfully) causing four more dates to be added

On Nov. 5, we shared that the Spice Girls, sans Victoria Beckham, would be embarking on the Spice World 2019 reunion tour in the U.K. Seems like the world's '90s-nostalgia-fueled excitement was let loose; as soon as tickets went on sale on Nov. 10, millions of fans rushed to purchase tickets, with demand so high that four more dates were added to the originally six-date tour that same day.

"Demand for Spice Girls was off the chart. They have smashed through Ticketmaster UK's records becoming the busiest ever sale," said Andrew Parsons, Ticketmaster UK's Managing Director, via the Independent. "There were millions of people on our site searching for tickets, with a queue at one point of well over 700,000."

The original announcement included six dates across the U.K. in June 2019 for the reunion tour, with two more shows each added in both Manchester and London. No dates outside of the U.K. have been set yet, although the high demand for the Spice Girls upbeat, pop-powered brand of empowerment points to global tour dates being very likely in the future. As Parsons points out, based on ticket sales, "they could have played nearly every night for a year."

The same day that Geri Horner, Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm and Emma Bunton—aka Ginger Spice, Scary Spice, Sporty Spice and Baby Spice—almost broke the internet with ticket sales, they also announced their "I Wanna Be A Spice Girl" campaign to support "girl power"—or "people power" as Bunton recently corrected, in action. They will be donating 100% of proceeds from limited-edition apparel emblazoned with #IWANNABEASPICEGIRL to U.K.-based charity Comic Relief to specifically support the organization's gender equality work.

"It's people power. We're about equality and bringing everyone together," Bunton said.

On Dec. 3, Queen + Adam Lambert, as the revived group calls itself, announced an "epic 23-date arena and stadium Rhapsody tour" in North America for summer 2019, beginning in Vancouver in July and closing out in Charlotte, N.C. in August. The new tour follows the revitalized excitement around Queen's music—for new and long-time fans alike—following the Nov. 2 release of the Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody.

The touring members include the iconic group's remaining co-founders, guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor, with Lambert filling in for the late, great Freddie Mercury. The lineup will also feature Spike Edney on keyboards, Neil Fairclough on bass and Tyler Warren on percussion.

May, Taylor and Lambert first performed together in 2009 on the American Idol stage, the same year the singer placed as a runner-up on the show and gained a loyal following. Queen + Adam Lambert came to fruition in 2012 when they embarked on their first tour together in Europe, with their most recent 2017/2018 tour taking them around the world. The tour wrapped in September 2018 in Las Vegas.

In the group's announcement, Taylor shared his excitement to keep the moment going: "We are ready for America and raring to get back in the saddle." Lambert added: "We have been designing a brand new visual spectacle that will reframe these iconic songs and we are excited to unveil it!"

According to Variety, Bohemian Rhapsody is "on track" to become the highest grossing music biopic of all time, a spot currently held by the 2015 film about N.W.A.,Straight Outta Compton.

Today, GRAMMY winners Maroon 5 revealed dates for an extensive North American 2020 tour, featuring fellow GRAMMY winners Leon Bridges and Meghan Trainor.

After the septet wrap up a handful of shows across Latin America in February and March, they will kick of the newly announced trek on May 30, 2020 in Chula Vista, Calif. and play huge venues across the continent until Sept. 17, where they'll close things out in Tampa, Fla.

— Maroon 5 (@maroon5) December 4, 2019

According to a press release, the "upcoming tour dates mark the biggest U.S. shows of the band's career," as they are slated to play to massive stadiums and amphitheaters, including Austin, Texas' Austin360 Amphitheater on June 7, Chicago's Wrigley Field on June 13 and Boston's Fenway Park on June 24. Trainor will be joining the band on all tour dates, while Bridges will offer additional support for all of the stadium shows.

Tickets for the tour go on sale next Friday, Dec. 13, via Live Nation, with pre-sales beginning Dec. 9. More info and complete dates can be found on Maroon5.com.

The pop-rock heavyweights have not yet revealed details about a follow up to 2018's Red Pill Blues, although they did release a new track, "Memories," on Sept. 20. Earlier this year, at the 61st GRAMMYs, the Red Pill Blues single "Girls Like You" received a nod for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

Their upcoming tour mate Bridges won his first GRAMMY at the 61st show, for Best Traditional R&B Performance for "Bet Ain't Worth The Hand," from his GRAMMY-nominated 2018 sophomore album, Good Thing. Trainor shares the title of former Best New Artist winner with Maroon 5, as she earned it at the 58th GRAMMY Awards in 2016.

Back at the 47th GRAMMY Awards in 2005, a baby-faced group of rising pop-rockers known as Maroon 5 accepted the GRAMMY for Best New Artist. Adam Levine even gave a heartfelt shout out to fellow 2005 Best New Artist Nominee Kanye West during his speech: "Kanye West, I want to thank you for being unbelievable."

That year they were also nominated for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal for their breakout hit, "She Will Be Loved." The next year, at the 48th GRAMMYs, they won in that category with "This Love," another Songs About Jane hit.

Maroon 5 Win Best New Artist

Maroon 5 band member PJ Morton is currently nominated for four GRAMMYs for his solo work, including Best R&B Album for PAUL.

The 2019 Best New Artist shared the first details of her highly anticipated sophomore LP by getting the album title tattooed on her arm

GRAMMY-winning dance-pop queen Dua Lipa is poised to bring us boldly into the new decade. On Dec. 1, the 2019 Best New Artist shared the first details of her highly anticipated sophomore LP by getting the album title, Future Nostalgia, tattooed on her arm and posting it on social media.

The "Electricity" artist followed up the album reveal with another exciting announcement: a 24-date European tour, which she will kick off on April 26 in Madrid. The Future Nostalgia EU Tour 2020 will see the Londoner playing massive venues across Europe, two nights at London's 20,000-capacity The 02 and Berlin's Mercedes-Benz Arena.

Lipa has not announced the release date for the new album yet, although her most recent bop, the vibrant nu-disco-tinged "Don't Start Now," was confirmed to be the lead single. She dropped the "boy bye" anthem on Halloween, followed by a fun new video (where you can peek that new tattoo!) the next day, Nov. 1.

She also spoke about the forthcoming project in a recent press release:

"What I wanted to do with this album was to break out of my comfort zone and challenge myself to make music that felt like it could sit alongside some of my favorite classic pop songs, whilst still feeling fresh and uniquely mine. I was inspired by so many artists on the new record from Gwen Stefani to Madonna to Moloko to Blondie and OutKast, to name just a few.

Because of the time that I'd spent on the road touring with my band I wanted Future Nostalgia to have a lot more of a live element, but mixed together with modern electronic production. My sound has naturally matured a bit as I've grown up but I wanted to keep the same pop sensibility as I had on the first record. I remember that I was on my way to a radio show in Las Vegas thinking about the direction for this new record and I realized that what I wanted to make was something that felt nostalgic but had something fresh and futuristic about it too."

Sounds like exactly what we need in pop music in 2020!

Last October, at her powerful acoustic performance and intimate conversation at the GRAMMY Museum, the "New Rules" singer noted the personal-feeling early albums of P!nk and Nelly Furtado, two of her childhood favorites, as points of reference for her 2017 self-titled debut album. We also caught up with her before the event to chat about working with Calvin Harris, who's on her collab wish list (Rosalía and Frank Ocean are two!), what the viral success of "New Rules" felt like for her and more.

Tickets for the Future Nostalgia EU Tour go on sale this Friday, Dec. 6 at 9 a.m. local time, except for Spain, whose tickets will go on sale on Dec. 5 at 9 a.m.—more details can be found on dualipa.com.
