Solange To Dance It Away At Afropunk 2017
One of the summer's hottest festivals has announced its headliner, and she is … Solange!
The GRAMMY winner will headline the Brooklyn, N.Y., iteration of Afropunk, a two-day music festival taking place Aug. 26 and Aug. 27 that features the biggest names in R&B, hip-hop and electronic/dance music. Solange will perform on her label Saint Heron's stage during the first night of the festival.
She joins esteemed GRAMMY winners Gary Clark Jr., Thundercat and Macy Gray, GRAMMY nominee Anderson .Paak and SZA, among more than 40 other live performers. The release of Afropunk's full line-up also revealed that British singer Jorja Smith will also be joining the festival.
Afropunk is a festival geared toward millennials looking to express their creative selves through music, dance, fashion, photography, film and more. The festival grew out of "the 2003 documentary that highlighted a black presence in the American punk scene," and has since become a hub to celebrate alternative and experimental black culture.
"We are the largest integrated media platform giving voice to the unwritten, unwelcome and unseen, we are redefining the modern multicultural experience globally," says the festival's website. "Our mission is to unleash freedom of expression, and honor the power of individuality while strengthening our community."
