RM Remix: BTS' Rap Monster Mashes Fall Out Boy's "Champion"
It has been said that an entertainer must keep the capacity to surprise, but K-pop shock gets taken up a notch by RM of BTS rapping and singing on a strong remix of Fall Out Boy's "Champion."
It makes sense that these artists are a good match. The Fall Out Boy Champion Tour has raised money for local charities at each date, while the BTS Love Myself UNICEF Campaign speaks to the weak around the world, encouraging them to find their strength.
Fall Out Boy's songs began being used on movie and television soundtracks in 2003, when RM was 9. While their upbeat stylings blend smoothly, there is something about RM's rap more evocative of the kind of action Vin Diesel and Donnie Yen bring to the screen. It brings out its own "I can do anything" beam of energy encouraging us all to look to the future.
The twist that makes this collab exciting is that even admirers of BTS' successful last few months of outreach to U.S. audiences might not have realized that RM is called Rap Monster because he actually raps hard. Fall Out Boy's signature sound is already something to bring young spirits up in people of any age. RM, Kim Nam-joon, is 23 so the authority in his voice as a grown man is no gimmick.
