Rihanna Will Be Returning To Barbados For Crop Over Festival 2019
Rihanna's self-reported "breaking news," which she shared in a video to her Instagram story yesterday, has been making headlines today. The GRAMMY-winning pop star/fashion icon/beauty innovator did not reveal any details on her hotly anticipated new album, but she did tell fans that she'd be returning to her native Barbados for the long-standing Crop Over summer festival.
"Alright, so breaking news: I'm coming to Barbados for Crop Over this year, 2019," she said in her story, reposted aplenty on other social accounts. She added that she will be attending one of the several-weeks-long celebration's newest parties, Lost in Paradise. The event's Instagram posted the video in a message, which you can read above.
As Essence reminded us, RiRi always slays when she joins in on the festivities, last attending in 2017, when she attended the Aura Experience rocking an epic colorful, feathered, sequined number. She also mentioned in the video that she will be returning to Aura this year.
According to Barbados' tourism website, Crop Over is a 200-year-old tradition honoring the end of sugar cane season, with six weeks of celebrations, culminating in the Grand Kadooment parade. This year's parade will take place on Aug. 5.
In other news, Rihanna will release her ninth studio album in her own damn time. Her last album, 2016's ANTI, earned six nominations at the 59th GRAMMY Awards.
