Rhye Perform Live From 98.7-FM's Penthouse
Indie electronic duo Rhye were recently the featured guests at 98.7-FM's Penthouse, an exclusive concert series hosted by Los Angeles-based radio station KYSR-FM at the historic Hollywood Tower in Hollywood, Calif. Before an intimate crowd, Rhye performed a set featuring tracks from their 2013 debut album, Woman, including "Verse," "Open" and "Major Minor Love," among others.
Rhye formed in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 2010 as a collaboration between two producers/multi-instrumentalists: Denmark native Robin Braun (aka Robin Hannibal of Quadron) and Canadian Mike Milosh. The pair decided to form Rhye after Milosh flew to Denmark to work on a Quadron remix with Braun.
"It didn't sound that much like a remix really," Braun recalled. "Instead it was like Mike had created layers and layers of amazing vocals and created an idea for a new song. … That inspired me to start working on a song based on his vocals."
After connecting based on their love of '60s soul and classic soundtracks, Rhye released the singles "Open" and "The Fall" in 2012 with vocals from Milosh, whose dream-like vocals have garnered comparisons to Sade.
"I have always had more of an attraction to female vocals as I like music to have a soothing quality," said Milosh.
After signing with Polydor Records in the UK, the duo released Woman in March 2013. Combining elements of R&B, pop and electronic, the album features 10 tracks co-produced by Braun and Milosh and peaked at No. 55 on the Billboard 200.
Rhye are currently scheduled to perform in Montreal and Portland, Ore., this summer.
