Metallica Donate $750,000 AUD To Australian Brush Fire Relief, Urge Fans To Give What They Can
Metallica are among the latest musicians to donate to Australia's brush fire relief.
The GRAMMY-winning rock band, with their All Within My Hands foundation, pledged $750,000 AUD (Australian dollars) to wildlife relief in New South Wales and Victoria. New South Wales, located on Australia's southeast coast, is one of the areas most affected by the country's massive fires this season.
"We are totally overwhelmed by the news of the wildfires sweeping through millions of acres across Australia, with major impact in New South Wales and Victoria," the band said in a statement. "The resulting destruction and devastating effects on all residents, animals, the environment and the incredible land in Australia is truly heartbreaking."
"Please join us and do whatever you can to assist as we, along with our foundation All Within My Hands, are pledging A$750,000," the statement said.
Roughly 24 people and over 480 million animals have died this fire season in Australia so far. Reports note that fires began to intensify in some areas back in September. More than 14.7 million acres have been burned thus far, as the fires continue.
