M83 Announce New Album 'DSVII,' Follow Up to 2007's 'Digital Shades Vol. I'

According to a statement, the project was “influenced heavily by early video game soundtracks, ‘80s sci-fi/fantasy films and analog synth pioneers,” and was recorded exclusively with analog equipment.
“During the summer of 2017, I spent five months in Cap d’Antibes, France," said Gonzalez. “I mainly spent my time swimming in the Mediterranean Sea, reading, watching films and playing ‘80s video games. The inspiration behind this record is mainly video game music. It felt so refreshing to play all of these old school games again. There is something so naive and touching about them. It’s simple and imperfect. And this is exactly what I tried to achieve with DSVII.”
The 15-track album arrives as the sequel to 2007's Digital Shades Vol. I and the follow up to the 2016 effort, Junk. M83 earned a nomination for Best Alternative Album at the 55th GRAMMY Awards for 2011's Hurry Up, We're Dreaming.
