Lollapalooza Argentina 2020 Postponed Amid Coronavirus Pandemic
As of Wednesday (March 11), the World Health Organization officially declared COVID-19, or Coronavirus, a global pandemic. While information surrounding the virus is constantly developing, its spread has now reached every continent with over 118,000 confirmed cases and over 4,000 deaths worldwide, according to CNN.
With prime festival season approaching and the virus' spread steadily evolving, several large concerts, festivals and events around the world such as Coachella, SXSW and others have been cancelled or postponed as a precautionary measure. The latest to fall into the series of cancellations is Lollapalooza Argentina, which as of today has officially announced that it will postpone its festival until the second half of the year.
The festival, originally meant to take place on the weekend of March 27-29 at Hipódromo de San Isidro in Buenos Aires, was put on hold after the Argentine government temporarily banned large gatherings to decrease the threat of the virus. According to a Billboard report, San Isidro’s local government posted that the festival would be cancelled on social media.
Today, Lollapalooza Argentina took to Instagram with a statement regarding the postponement.
"From Lollapalooza Argentina, we inform that we are working on reprogramming the 2020 edition of the festival for the second half of the year. Given this unprecedented fact, our maximum priority is to preserve the health and safety of the public, artists and work teams, and abide by preventative measures of public authorities and sanitation."
Lollapalooza Argentina was set to feature GRAMMY-winning and GRAMMY-nominated headliners Gwen Stefani, Guns N’ Roses, Travis Scott and Lana Del Rey. Additional artists Charli XCX, Brockhampton, Kacey Musgraves, The Strokes, Vampire Weekend and Jaden Smith were set to round out the lineup.
Whether lineups are subject to change due to the festival's postponements has yet to be determined. Lollapalooza stated that it would share more information about rescheduling of dates through their website and social media as soon as possible.
