Leon Bridges Comes Home With A GRAMMY Nomination
In an exclusive GRAMMY.com interview, current GRAMMY-nominated singer/songwriter Leon Bridges discussed his feelings on his first career GRAMMY nomination, being discovered at an open mic night and recording the title track for his GRAMMY-nominated album, Coming Home, among other topics.
"[The GRAMMY nomination] totally blew my mind. I didn't think that my album would be worthy for the R&B category or a GRAMMY period," said Bridges. "I've always been a fan of R&B, and for … my record to be among some great musicians — I mean, it's amazing."
Fort Worth, Texas-based Bridges got his musical start in college, incorporating elements of '60s R&B, soul and gospel. While performing at an open mic night in Texas, he met producers Austin Jenkins and Joshua Block, who Bridges recorded several songs with. The tracks were subsequently posted online and grabbed industry attention, culminating with the release of his debut album, Coming Home, in 2015.
Bridges is currently on an international tour, with dates scheduled through June.
