Hot Chip Announce New Album & World Tour, Release Lead Single
Hot Chip dropped their first new music in four years today, "Hungry Child," along with a cinematic music video, and revealed the song is the lead single for their seventh studio album, A Bath Full of Ecstasy, due out June 21. They also shared dates for a world tour this Fall in support of the upcoming album.
The upbeat, 6-minute "Hungry Child" opens with synthy keys and builds to a bouncing house beat as Joe Goddard and Alexis Taylor's vocals weave through the track. Its visual, directed by filmmaker Saman Kesh, is a strange, compelling eight-minute journey through a couple's breakup, who can't seem to escape the mysterious song playing wherever they go.
A Bath Full of Ecstasy marks the first time Hot Chip has worked with an outside producer on their music. They enlisted GRAMMY winner Philippe Zdar, who earned a win for his work with Phoenix, and GRAMMY nominee Rodaidh McDonald, who has worked with fellow GRAMMY nominee Jamie xx as well as his group the xx. The album tracklist reveals nine songs; it is their first LP since 2015's Why Make Sense?
The group is currently in Europe on their Spring tour, which also includes select U.S. dates with stops in Brooklyn, New York San Francisco, Calif. and Los Angeles for their live shows and additional DJ sets.
They will hit the road in full force this fall for the A Bath Full of Ecstasy Tour, which begins with the North American leg in Brooklyn on Sept. 3. The band will spend the month of September performing live sets across the country, closing out on Sept. 27 at The Shrine in L.A., after which they will bring the show to the U.K. and the rest of Europe.
