Greening The GRAMMY Awards
Building on work initiated at the 50th GRAMMY Awards in 2008, The Recording Academy has partnered with the National Resources Defense Council to reduce the ecological footprint of the 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards.
Representing an ongoing commitment to implementing ecologically intelligent practices, the entire production of the 55th GRAMMY Awards telecast and Pre-Telecast Ceremony will be powered by 100 percent renewable energy purchased through Los Angeles Department of Water & Power.
The Recording Academy will also recycle bottles, cans, glass, cooking oils, and corks from official GRAMMY Week events, including the GRAMMY Celebration after-party. Leftover food from the GRAMMY Celebration will be donated to local organizations in need, including the Upward Bound House, which provides homes for families with children.
The Academy is also sponsoring a ridesharing program in partnership with Ride Amigos. The service is intended to reduce congestion and travel responses to and from the event.
The 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards will take place live on Sunday, Feb. 10 at Staples Center in Los Angeles and will be broadcast in high-definition TV and 5.1 surround sound on the CBS Television Network from 8–11:30 p.m. (ET/PT). The show also will be supported on radio worldwide via Dial Global, and covered online at GRAMMY.com and CBS.com, and on YouTube.
