GRAMMY.com Exclusive First Look: Julien-K
Long Beach, Calif.-based electronic/rock group Julien-K recently released their latest single, "Colorcast." GRAMMY.com has your first look at the premiere of the live performance video for the melodic trance track.
"Because Julien-K is a new band, it didn't really justify all the over-the-top production of our other bands," said Julien-K's Ryan Shuck. "We really wanted this to be about the music and the raw energy of our performance."
Julien-K comprise lead vocalist Shuck, guitarist Amir Derakh, bassist/keyboardist Anthony "Fu" Valcic, and drummer Frank Zummo. Former members of the death-pop band Orgy, Shuck and Derakh formed Julien-K to make music that leaned heavily on their electronic and rock influences. The group's sound has garnered them comparisons to the likes of the Kills, Muse and Passion Pit.
In September Julien-K won MTVu's Freshman Video of the week for the single "Cruel Daze Of Summer." That same month they released a deluxe version of their sophomore album We're Here With You, which features "Cruel Daze of Summer," "Colorcast" and 10 bonus tracks including remixes by Polar Moon, Battle Tapes, and Craig Williams.
