"GRAMMY Effect" Boosts Album Sales
The 56th Annual GRAMMY Awards boosted sales this week for several GRAMMY winners and performers, with the top-selling album related to Music's Biggest Night being the 2014 GRAMMY Nominees album, which sold 87,000 units, up 47 percent from the prior week, and landed at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 for a second consecutive week, according to a Billboard report. GRAMMY winners and performers experiencing album sales increases include Stevie Wonder (up 1,037 percent for Songs In The Key Of Life, which hit the Billboard 200 for the first time in more than 30 years), Madonna (up 494 percent for The Immaculate Collection, which makes its first chart appearance since 1993), Daft Punk (up 300 percent), Kacey Musgraves (up 177 percent), Lorde (up 86 percent), Imagine Dragons (up 65 percent), Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (up 62 percent), and Katy Perry (up 22 percent). In total, seven of the top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 were impacted by the 56th GRAMMY Awards, while eight of the top 20 songs on the Digital Songs chart were performed on the GRAMMY telecast.
