FYI/TMI: WMG Breaks Down Business, Obama Breaks Down "Gangnam Style"
(In an effort to keep you fully informed, and fully entertained, below we present today's FYI and TMI — news you need and news that's, well, sometimes needless….)
Restructuring At WMG
Warner Music Group has announced an organizational restructuring that will divide the label into three divisions: frontline recorded music, which will include Atlantic Records, Warner Bros. Records and Warner Music Nashville; music publishing and catalog development, aligning Warner/Chappell Music with Rhino Entertainment; and a label and artist services unit that will include Artist Distribution Alliance and WEA, among other companies. In addition, Warner/Chappell Music Chairman and CEO Cameron Strang will head Rhino, and Matt Signore has been named general manager and chief financial officer for the label and artist services division.
"Gangnam Style" To Hit The White House?
With less than 24 hours since being re-elected for a second term as president of the United States, Barack Obama is already getting ready to go back to work in the Oval Office. But he's not working on the U.S. federal budget just yet. He's working on his dance moves. In a recent interview with WZID-FM, the president revealed he's confident he can do the dance moves seen in South Korean pop star Psy's viral video for "Gangnam Style." "I just saw that video for the first time," Obama said. "I think I can do that move." With preparations for Obama's inauguration already underway, one would think this a perfect opportunity for the president to bust that move. But we may not be so lucky. "I'm not sure that the inauguration ball is the appropriate time to break that out," he said. "Maybe [I'll] do it privately for Michelle [Obama]."
